The polygamous practices of the Latter Day Saints brought them persecution both before and after their 1847 resettlement in Utah. There circumstances caused a group of Brigham Young's followers to attack a wagon train, killing more than 120 immigrants. Here three top Mormon scholars chronicle the church's early years when members struggled to establish a new home near the Great Salt Lake. The chimera of information serves history but fails to become cohesive. Narrator Bill Dewees lacks the professional ability to vary his inflections or bring needed continuity to the overdose of names, places, and events. His monotony and the tedious narrative may make listeners wonder if the time invested to hear about the massacre at the denouement will prove worth the wait.
