Moscow of the 1990's is a dangerous place for Arkady Renko, the main character in Smith's Russian stories. Kandinsky's Russian, German and American accents are convincing and easy to understand. The reading is clear and well-paced for the action of this techno-thriller. Characterizations of the men and women are dramatic and distinct. In addition to Russian organized crime, car bombs and coded fax messages, the long romance between Arkady and Irina Asanova adds another fascinating dimension.
