REMEMBERING SPAIN

Hemingway was convinced that the Spanish Civil War of 1936 wasn't simply a localized conflict, but rather the crucial struggle between freedom and repression in the face of rising fascism. The depth of his conviction is apparent in this recording of his 1947 eulogy to the Americans who fought for the cause of anti-fascism in Spain. Unadorned and uncompromising in his presentation, Hemingway reads his work with unabated passion and directness. His message is clear and concise (lasting just over three minutes).
