THE 39 CLUES BOOK TEN: INTO THE GAUNTLET

Amy and Dan Cahill race to secure the final clues they need to win the quest to uncover history’s greatest mysteries. Working with clues that reference Shakespeare, they struggle to decide whether winning or friendship should rule their actions. David Pittu deftly conveys their ambivalence and changes of heart. A versatile narrator, he creates realistic voices for the children, teenagers, and even the cane-wielding adult Alistair Oh. Pittu’s dialogue is better than his narrative, which seems stiff, but he creates a dynamic atmosphere as explosions on a remote island turn into a life-or-death standoff.
