SHERLOCK HOLMES TALES OF BETRAYAL

One of the benefits of hearing the Holmes tales is increased insight into Dr. Watson, the chronicler of his and his friend’s adventures. A brilliant Holmes demands a perfect Watson. Unfortunately, Edward Hardwicke, Jeremy Brett’s Watson on the PBS “Mystery” series, makes him a colorless nonentity. Otherwise, he does an entertaining job with the three cases presented here--“A Scandal in Bohemia,” “Silver Blaze” and “The Adventure of the Copper Beeches.” This reviewer, who knows the Holmes stories almost by heart, still found this recording fresh and fun.
