Nurse Hester Latterly takes a job as a traveling companion for aging Mary Farraline. When Mary dies of a fatal dose of heart medication on their first night together, Hester is charged with murder. Inspector William Monk is on the case. Anne Perry fans rejoice! Davina Porter does a superb job reading this. The emotions of the characters could very easily be overdone. Porter captures just the right nuances, accents and voices for all the characters, both male and female, cultured and working class. Perry's descriptions of Edinburgh in late fall, the misery of the slums, the elegance of wealthier areas are all brought to life. This is a book to be savored!
