The story of Joe May's coming of age in Alaska during the Gold Rush will enjoy wide appeal. David Stuart has a wonderful voice and uses a wide range of characterizations and accents for Brand's characters. He reads with clear, concise diction and even pacing, providing true listening pleasure. The background conflict between legendary Alaskans Hugh Massey and Arnie Calmont adds drama, as does the love story between Hugh and Marjorie.
