SO MY SOUL CAN SING

Ethridge Knight's poems reflect his imprisonment in rural Mississippi and, later, in a state penitentiary. He reads with a strong, rich voice, resonating with the rhythm and jargon of the street. The 43 poems in this collection, including "A WASP Woman Visits a Black Junkie in Prison," poems to Eric Dolhy, Malcolm X and his young daughter, as well as some haiku, represent Knight's broad artistic and emotional range.
