STALKING HORSE

by | Read by Bruce Boxleitner

Mystery & Suspense • 3 hrs. • Abridged • © 1994

Following in the steps of his British counterpart Dick Francis, American horse-racing legend Bill Shoemaker turns mystery writer with this story about fixed races, theft and murder. Boxleitner's voice is a weathered rasp and hampers his female characters, but he does manage to capture a mean Cajun drawl. More troublesome is that Shoemaker's story occasionally shifts its point of view, making the plot confusing to follow. Rewinding to clear up these questions is a real bother in the audio format. Overall, Stalking Horse may not win or place, but it definitely rates a bow. D.A.W. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: MAR 95]
