Although listed as third in the Daybreak series, this story can stand alone. Two families are fixing up a camp in West Virginia when Teddy Giordano, who is fleeing the Mob, chooses one of the deserted cabins as a hiding place. The resulting conflict will bring assassins to the camp and put everyone to the test. Jean DeBarbieris reads with a very empathetic style--often too much so, with a bit too much sweetness coloring most of the story. Her vocal characterizations of New Yorkers, mobsters, a retarded child and Southerners are overdone, bordering on caricature. An overly sensitive production is weakened by the vocal personalities given to many of the characters. M.A.M. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 00]
