TECHNOPOLY

by | Read by Jeff Riggenbach

Contemporary Culture • 6 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1992

Neil Postman’s cogent and lucid analysis of our indiscriminate embrace of technological innovation deserves the widest possible audience. But it is truly a book, abstract, dense and closely reasoned--something to be lingered over and studied. The audiobook format is definitely second choice, except perhaps for a first overview. Still, it would benefit by a more leisurely, engaged reading than it gets from Jeff Riggenbach, who sounds like a very competent announcer disinterestedly transcribing the text to tape. The recording is clear but has numerous small flaws which suggest hasty production. J.N. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPT 94]
