TELL ME NO LIES

The layers of lies are many, weighty, and ominous, and they come close to burying Gemma and Mike. Blackman's young adult novel revolves around two high school misfits, one who feels unloved by her family and the other who feels responsible for his father's death. The many misfortunes in these young lives makes for heavy listening as Clifford Norgate takes the listener deep into the psyches of these two students. As they alternately build their own protective worlds and rebel against their families, Norgate's voice projects pain, resentment, and angst. Because of his genuine portrayal of the characters, the listener can believe Gemma when she is finally able to say, "Watch out world. I'm coming."
