TO THE WHITE SEA

James Dickey's third novel is an adventure story about an American pilot shot down over Tokyo near the end of World War II. Dickey's stories are raw and brutal. This story is no exception. Pilot Muldrow, a rugged woodsman, is the only major character. In reader Dick Hill's portrayal Muldrow's energy escalates to a wily climax. Hill never intrudes on Muldrow's character or Dickey's intentions but remains in the background as a medium for the story.
