TOBY TYLER OR, TEN WEEKS WITH A CIRCUS

The allure of the circus doesn't go out of date . Young actor Amon Purinton is an inspired choice as narrator for this late-nineteeth-century story. His youthful voice and astute sense of timing give Toby's saga of joining the circus a contemporary flavor that resonates with today's children. He's able to express Toby's wonderful trusting nature, along with his optimism, loneliness and pluck, with equal ease. Toby's affection for his monkey, Mr. Stubbs, is beautifully captured by Purinton and Toby's abject misery at the monkey's death--a hard-to-forget passage.
