This mammoth effort, over 20 hours of listening, is as much a chronicle of the twentieth century as it is a history of the Ochs and Sulzberger families, owners of THE NEW YORK TIMES. Narrator Scott Brick employs a factual approach, reading in an even tenor without much emotion. He starts out a bit shaky, tripping over some words and swallowing others, but he quickly settles down and finds a suitable rhythm for the story. Brick's authoritative delivery complements the text without overpowering it. There are times, though, when his voice is somewhat monotonous. A little more animation would solve this problem.
