WAR FEVER

During the '60’s, Ballard, an Englishman, emerged as the leading exponent of "New Age" science fiction. I'm not sure what that means, except that he writes with more literary finesse than most genre authors. This collection contains not only fantasies, but also some probing satire and other unclassifiable stories. Narrator Carrington is variously turgid and laconic, more effective in moments of high drama than in subtler passages--yet always careful of subtext and mood.
