WARHORSE

by | Read by George Guidall

Western • 12.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1956

Buford Allen's fortunes in the post-Civil War West have gone from boom to bust and back again many times. Allen wants to make one last deal, a cattle drive from San Antonio to remote Warhorse, Montana. George Guidall once again presents a fully voiced reading, which conveys the tension between Allen and the other characters. The unscrupulous financier, Dixon, sounds thoroughly detestable; the elderly Confederate colonel sounds dignified and beleaguered; the Mexican spy sounds deceptively canny. This evocative period novel is very entertaining. N.B.H. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: MAR 96]
