Stechschulte is the ideal narrator for this coming-of-age tale: He captures both the naive wonder of youth and the cynicism of middle age. With no special effects and using only skillful vocalizations and accents, he brings to life Brown's parade of characters. He is truly believable in all of the roles, including that of a young girl who is posing as a boy.
