The fortuitous partnership of Listening Library and Chinaberry Books, a distinguished source for children's books, has produced a hit with this environmental tale of a humpback whale. Don't think that the life of a whale doesn't have plenty of adventure; the dramatic climax of the story will keep listeners 10 to 50 enthralled. Author Robert Siegel, also known for his poetry, offers a fluid narrative that sparkles with imagery. Don West, a new voice to audiobooks, is a natural. His versatility is evident, and in the hands (voice, really) of a less-skilled narrator the story could easily have lost its vitality. West is resonant, smooth and careful with pacing and tone.
