WHEN IN DOUBT, ADD BUTTER

Narrator Orlagh Cassidy brightly inhabits the character of 37-year-old Gemma Craig, a funny, overthinking, unattached private chef. Cassidy brings out Gemma’s calm, contemplative moments with smooth sensuality that also makes for mouth-watering descriptions of food. In contrast, she portrays Gemma’s anxiety and chaotic spells with fast-paced mirth. Cassidy demonstrates her range of voices through Gemma’s assortment of clients, who include the disapproving, micromanaging Mrs. Van Houghton; the even-toned, sensitive “Mr. Tuesday,” whom Gemma has never met; and the gruff Russian who runs a suspicious home business.
