This novel features dual narration. Two women's lives, separated by time but joined by hardships and challenges, teach the true meaning of living in faith and trust in Christ. Alma Cuervo's rich voice and quiet dignity perfectly portray the journey of Sierra and Alex Madrid as their marriage crumbles when Alex accepts a job in L.A. in the video game industry. Angela Rogers's gritty voice fits the plucky and spirited Mary Kathryn, an ancestor of Sierra's, who faces the challenges of crossing the frontier to California in a covered wagon. Rogers's slightly halting delivery provides a good contrast to the smoother narration of Cuervo, although there are some small mistakes in pronunciation that are noticeable. Overall, though, this book contains valuable lessons about living a Christ-centered life. A.C.P. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2013]
