While mowing Math Taylor's farm, Roper comes across Laura Taylor's body in a ditch. Secretly hiding the body and pretending he wasn't at work that afternoon, Roper worries himself into a frenzy about whether he did the right thing. Harrison Lee's soft-spoken mumbling is counterbalanced by his booming dialogue, forcing the listener to constantly adjust the volume on this audiobook. While Janice Daugharty has created a work reflecting life for poor blacks in South Georgia, Lee's performance is marred by poor editing, distracting the listener from the tale.
