But suddenly he finds himself being chased down by sinister strangers and learns he's the long-lost heir to an aristocratic dynasty. MacKenzie smoothly portrays multiple characters with a variety of British, Irish, and Scots accents. The frenzied eagerness of the greedy "arachno-sapiens," the indignant squabbling of the Newgate prison ghosts, and the simpering voice of the sea witch give this audiobook performance a three-dimensional effect.
