This cute book is a contemporary tale of a divorced mom with a teenager who moves out of New York City to the supposedly safer suburbs. Much of its success has to do with C.J. Critt’s perky narration. She has a handle on the subject and gleefully jumps right in. Although she goes a bit overboard in the beginning, she settles down by Tape Two and delivers a wonderful, tongue-in-cheek performance. She pushes the story along with understated characterizations and captures every twist and turn with deft reading. The best part, though, is that Critt is obviously having fun, and that fun is infectious. R.I.G. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/ SEP 01]
