Detective Sergeant Ruggerio (Ruggs) Carlucci is a real character, and it takes a veteran performer like Norman Dietz to capture him perfectly. In this latest mystery, Carlucci is called upon to solve the murder of a businessman whose body was found in the open trunk of his Jaguar. As Ruggs hunts for the killer, he also has to deal with his very Italian mother and a new love. Dietz’s accents are real and absorbing, though sometimes a little overdone. Though there is often a notable hiss in Dietz’s voice, his otherwise solid characterizations make the listener forget this small flaw soon enough.
