After attorney Michael Dailey is fired from San Francisco’s Simpson & Gates law firm, two of the firm’s partners are found dead from bullet wounds, and Dailey’s best friend is arrested for the killings. Dailey goes after the truth, revealing the firm’s darkest secrets in the process. Frank Muller’s reading is tight, and his emotional interpretation is right on target. Muller’s special challenge is reading the hero’s inner thoughts, which run alongside the action and dialogue. Muller shifts his voice slightly, effectively italicizing Dailey’s internal monologue. In all, this is an excellent reading of an equally fine first novel. S.E.S. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/ SEP 01]
