A BULLY FATHER

Through letters written to his six children between 1898 and 1911, Theodore Roosevelt is presented by John McDonough in what sounds like Roosevelt's own hearty, patrician voice. McDonough speaks slowly, with deadpan understatement and timing that makes one laugh. Whether picnicking or pillow fighting with his "cunning young scamps," he highlights T.R.'s delight in being a father. Nelson Runger, who reads the long introduction (almost three cassettes) that serves as background, has a husky, rich voice that could also be Roosevelt's.
