Narrator Davina Porter's emotional and evocative delivery makes this archetypal novel of love, lust, and corruption a must-listen. Porter uses her bounteous acting ability, taking pregnant pauses and emphasizing key sentences and phrases with just the right amount of drama and, at times, comedy. Her take on the genteel accents adds to the reality of the story. Porter's portrayal allows the characters to grow in their despair and, without a tone of judgment against their actions, delivers a depiction that is remarkable.
