Skippy Langon infiltrates self-help groups, hoping to uncover a link between the victims and discovering a good deal about her own psyche. A white knuckler (whether on your steering wheel or the edge of your kitchen counter), this novel serves up voodoo and psychology in equal amounts. Narrator Cristine McMurdo-Wallis evenhandedly uncovers the secrets and psychotic behaviors of each character. The slowness of Southern drawls simply adds to the suspense. B.H.B.
