Professional burglar, and sometimes sleuth for criminals, Junior Bender returns for the fourth time. Peter Berkrot is a solid narrator with great tough-guy voices. When Junior’s larcenous mentor, Herbie Mott, is found dead after stealing a damning document, Junior and his usual cohort of hyperintellectual felons must solve a series of mysteries. Junior’s home is the seamy part of the San Fernando Valley, with occasional forays over the hill into Central L.A. However, Berkrot’s dialogue voices conjure up a street in Brooklyn. Sometimes the combination of West Coast story and East Coast accent can be jarring. But Berkrot always carries the story along. Herbie would approve.
