ROUND THE BEND

This work of fiction has the feel of autobiography. In lean documentary narrative, Tom Cutter tells of how he came to aviation via a flight circus and how he built a thriving air service in the Middle East with the help of his Buddhist partner, the partner's beautiful sister, and a crew of Asian non-Christians. The fictional Cutter writes as if he doesn't care if his story interests anyone other than himself. And that's how John Telfer reads it--that is, he speaks (in an unconvincing Midlands accent) as if the rather dry recital of events excites him no end, as if he, a decent and uncomplicated chap, were recalling the best moments in his lifelong romance with the airplane.
