The Prior's Ford novel series, and narrator Lesley Mackie were made for each other. This small Scottish village overflows with ordinary people and eccentrics, and Mackie captures all of them using just the right pace and tone. When cookbook author Laura Tyler and her husband, a retired cop, buy a holiday house, they seem the "perfect" fit. However, after the director of a local production of THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST is strangled with a stage prop, the villagers are aflutter. Mackie splendidly portrays the village drunk as well as the vicar who tries to calm troubled waters. Her best portrayal is that of Amy Rose, an annoying and interfering American who sounds just right! The cozy's moving conclusion will surprise listeners.
