SHADOWS OF GLORY

by | Read by Paul Boehmer

Historical Fiction • 12 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2000

Major Abel Jones, Welsh immigrant and veteran of the Indian Mutiny, continues his service as an intelligence officer for the federal government. It is the winter of 1861-62, and in upstate New York a number of government agents have been murdered. Abel is sent to investigate and encounters mysticism and the occult, as well as a plot to start a war between Great Britain and the United States. The suspense and intrigue are skillfully written with good historical detail. The first-rate story is commendably read by Paul Boehmer. Since the story is told in the first person as a recollection, Boehmer gives Jones a soft, but masculine, British accent. This is only the beginning, for we are also presented with a wide array of marvelously performed Irishmen, Germans, and Americans. All in all, it's hard to press the "stop" button until the very end.
