A CARELESS WIDOW & Other Stories

Pritchett is a deft and skilled short story artist. His stories, set in twentieth-century England, are populated by ordinary people although there always seems to be at least one person peering into society from just outside of it. Pritchett's portrayal are sympathetic and often humorous. They translate well into audio format. Robin Browne and Frances Jeater alternate these stories, providing a nice variety. Jeater brings more energy than Browne, and her characterization of the frightful Benedict, a devilish schoolboy in "Cocky Olly," is hilarious. T.R. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB 94]
