Mystery & Suspense • 9 hrs. 15 min. • Unabridged • © 1992

Jenny Meade keeps her eyes on the clouds and her hands on the wheel, imagining her 1979 Honda to be an airplane. Imagine her surprise when she finds a dead body in, of all places, a cemetery. Barbara Rosenblat seems incapable of giving a bad reading. Her clear voice strikes just the right notes of frustration, bemusement, anger and bewilderment at the suburban antics revealed during the investigation. A second reader portrays the other major character in a change of format. Jones is superb as the introspective Native American cop. He does not overly delineate any other voice, but he rarely needs to. Rosenblat, on the other hand, fully voices her characters to great effect. S.F.
