Actor/director Campbell Scott has worked steadily recording audiobooks for more than a dozen years despite his active roles in film and on stage. What's the fascination with audiobook narration? "My dedication to audiobooks comes from what they give to me. Audiobooks work your [acting] muscles. When else would I get to play a 57-year-old Spanish woman?" Currently recording Hemingway's FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS, Campbell admires how well-written stories "almost tell themselves." Campbell's recording of Stephen King's THE SHINING put him into this year's Audie Award spotlight. Campbell has been a long-time fan of King's work, and after recording titles such as THE SHINING and CELL , admires "how King assembles and makes interesting an amazing group of characters." AudioFile has celebrated Campbell's work for Margaret Atwood's ORYX AND CRAKE —also an Audie Finalist for Best Narrator—Michael Hoeye's delightful TIME STOPS FOR NO MOUSE , and SEABISCUIT . Another high-profile audio this year: Campbell recorded Annie Proulx's story BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN .
