BLANDINGS CASTLE

Wodehouse captured the sublime silliness of the human race in phrase after economical phrase. The stories in this collection split their focus between the old aristocracy (Lord Emsworth and the crowd at Blandings) and the new aristocracy of Hollywood. It's tough to decide which are more ridiculous. Is it Emsworth's battles with his Scottish gardener? His attempts to call his beloved pig--or his forcing his butler do so? Or the exposé of the midgets acting as kids in Hollywood movies? In every case, Wodehouse delights, as does James Saxon's narration, which lingers on every variation in accent, creating two dozen distinct characters with ease.
