Neil Hellegers offers a steady, even narration of this look at Christian lives under Roman rule. In fact, the narration may be too steady. The combination of an unemotional reading and the author's stilted prose results in a less-than-engaging audio experience while a bit more variety in vocal tone and pace would have helped the presentation. Hellegers does do a good job with Latin names, and he keeps the references to the illustrations in the PDF attachment from sounding too intrusive. Overall, this book likely works better in print than it does in audio, especially since listeners can't always access the illustrations quickly, which reduces the educational value of the work.
