WOLF'S HEAD The Forest Lord, Book 1

by | Read by Nick Ellsworth

Fiction • 10.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2013

Forget the lighthearted stories of Robin Hood told over the years. McKay shows the outlaw more realistically. Medieval England is a place of harsh conditions for all but the nobles, and being an outlaw is the only means of survival for some. Life in the forest is hard and brutal for the familiar characters. Narrator Nick Ellsworth tells this tale with an air of familiarity that is easy and comfortable. He differentiates characters well, reflecting their stations in a society in which class is an individual's defining feature. Deftly handling the dialogue of the men, he shows the interplay among them, which is sometimes rough, with crude language. Nonetheless, the well-paced narration makes for easy listening.
