HOMETOWN LEGEND

by | Read by Frank Muller

Fiction • 6 hrs. • Abridged • © 2001

Told as a recollection, this tale concerns the narrator (a widower, ex-football player, and owner of a family business, a football factory), his old high school coach, and the second chance given to the two of them. The story, which takes place in Athens City, Alabama, is intriguing, and the depiction of Coach Shuler will be very real to those who have participated in sports. Frank Muller's performance is a nice match for the text. He affects something of a country accent which, we suppose, is meant to be Southern. It is effective enough, easy to understand, and quite expressive, and his enthusiasm quickly draws the listener into the story. Overall, this is a fine reading of a deceptively winsome story.
