Mystery & Suspense • 6.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1994

A middle-aged ex-cop in Amsterdam and his soul-searching, substance-abusing former partner are the wheels that turn this excellent, albeit quirky, mystery. And George Guidall is certainly up to the task of interpreting the tale of these unlikely Dutch detectives and their encounters in a Maine fishing village. Guidall uses his voice as a gentle, singsong tool, making the foreign sounds and the Zen character of the story accessible to even the most skeptical of listeners. The reading and the story itself are funny, intelligent and, above all, very human. S.E.S. (c) AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 02]
