CAUGHT IN THE LIGHT

Goddard's theme is the discrepancy between appearance and reality. Ian Jarrett falls in love with a woman who quickly disappears after he gives up all for her. Kitchen, an accomplished actor, brilliantly recreates voices from around the world and the past (including the more poetic way of speaking in the nineteenth century). There are flashbacks about who first invented photography; was it a woman? Much is suggestion, and the emotional range is vast, all of which Kitchen delivers at fever pitch.
