WHYLAH FALLS

by | Read by Walter Borden, Troy Adams, Fachel Latrelle, et al.

Fiction • 1 hr. • Abridged • © 1990

Clarke's WHYLAH FALLS, first published more than a decade ago, is a varied collection of poetry and prose that tells the story of the inhabitants of a vibrant black community in Nova Scotia. In this hour-long dramatized version, some of the poems are put to music, and a cast of actors delivers the lines. Some of the acting is subpar, and it's difficult to follow the story because so much has been excised for this brief production. However, what does remain conveys the beauty and lyricism of Clarke's verse, which really is meant to be spoken and sung. D.B. (c) AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 02]
