In this three-hour program, Sandburg reads many of the poems we hoped he would--"Fog," "The Windy City," and a good selection from "The People, Yes"--showing us why he was considered by many to be the "poet of the people." Sandburg's voice has something of a hurried quality to it, and he falls into the habit of raising his tone of voice at the end of phrases. Because the program spans Sandburg's career, the quality of the performances varies. Unfortunately, Sandburg doesn't identify any of the poems before reading them.
