Richard Matthews is perfectly matched to this true tale of sea and adventure forusing on Admiral Thomas Cochrane, whose life inspired the sea tales of C.S. Forester and Patrick O'Brian. The dashing hero equals Nelson and Hornblower in his naval prowess, legendary feats, and daring victories. Richard M. Matthews mimics the son of a Scots aristocrat with an accent that pleasantly separates the abundant words of the admiral (quotations from Cochrane's logs, diaries, letters, and official hearings) from the words of the author. The Napoleonic War in progress necessitates a lot of French for Matthews. He speaks it effortlessly. All the publisher's promises about the audiobook being "brilliant and thrilling" are true. Fiction is rarely this well conceived. J.A.H. © AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/SEP 02]
