In this comic novel by the author of TRUE GRIT, a quixotic Arkansas fussbudget pursues his wife and her lover after they abscond with his car and credit card. Herein one find the author's storied gift for humorous embellishment, characterization, and regional dialogue--all of which are served up in crisply brisk tones by Edward Lewis. The punctilious accuracy and starchy introversion that make Lewis so satisfying in nonfiction serve him less well here.
