CHARLOTTE TEMPLE

by | Read by Flo Gibson

Classics • 4.5 hrs. • Unabridged • ©

Epitomizing early Victorian morality novels, this story depicts the downfall of a British girl who is seduced, led to America and abandoned. Flo Gibson shows her skill as an excellent vocal dramatist. Her gift for character interpretation brings the reader to an empathetic understanding of Charlotte, her suitor and the complex forces that govern them. Gibson's accents, both British and French, are well done, and her pacing adds clarity to the text. However, the recording volume is low, and the voices seem distant, making listening in the car difficult. J.S.G. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 94]
