MR ROBBINS

Narrator Michael Troughton does an affecting portrayal of Peter Robbins as he hears the devastating news that he has advanced pancreatic cancer. Troughton's portrayal of Robbins is realistic as he contemplates his life atop beautiful Beachy Head in southern England. Soon his life is changed by Fiona Mulgrew, a talkative Irish woman whom Troughton portrays with a gorgeous accent and a delightful sense of humor, and her dog, Seamus. Listeners will enjoy their banter but be surprised by their sudden engagement, marriage, and the birth of twins. Most moving are excerpts from Robbins's journal, Mulgrew's thoughts about his painful treatments, and the fears of the patient and his loved ones, particularly his children, who sound fully believable as they cope with their father's illness and subsequent death.
