Carson Andrews (aka Edward Lewis) narrates this science fiction novel of political intrigue and sex with gusto. For the story's Pavel Kazakov, a Russian oilman, the narrator creates an amusing version of a Russian accent that varies between thick and thin from sentence to sentence. Andrews's vocal inflections for supporting characters add spice to a bland adventure story, and he seems to be the one keeping the slow plot in motion. Andrews treats sentences much like headlines, throwing them out in staccato, and pausing afterwards to provide the separations between them. His bullet-style of presentation could be annoying to some. J.A.H. © AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/SEP 02]
