The homesites of Eudora Welty and Richard Wright are preserved in very different ways, as are those of Georgians Flannery O'Connor and Harry Crews. To Eby's discerning eye, the sites reveal essential qualities in those writers, the way they lived, and the South they immortalized. Bennett proves a judicious choice over a narrator with distinctly Southern origins. She matches so well the author's sentiments, syntax, and complex perspective on her subject that very soon you imagine the voice really is Southern. D.A.W.
